Mother’s Day is this Sunday. Hopefully you already knew that, but if you didn’t this post may be helpful! During this quarantine (that we are slowly coming out of), it’s a little more challenging. You might not be able to do what you would normally do on Mother’s Day.
We normally take my mom to brunch and she loves it, and so do I! We won’t be doing that this year even though our restaurants were allowed to open last Friday (with 25% capacity). My parents are in their 70’s so it’s not the best idea to eat out in public quite yet. We will have to postpone brunch until next year.
This year I needed to get a little more creative so I wanted to share some of my ideas. Here is a list of all of the ideas I came up with. I’m only going with a few of them, but I thought this list might help others – especially if you are looking for something last minute.
IDEAS for mom
- Send a handwritten letter. What mom wouldn’t LOVE a handwritten letter from their child? I don’t know one. Take time to write out all the things you are thankful for about your mom. Tell her what you appreciate about her and what you remember most about your childhood. Write a list of what made her a great mom and how you are using what you learned from her as you parent your own children.
- Deliver her favorite meal to her front door. If you don’t want to meet in person yet due to Covid-19 – drop her favorite meal off at her front door, ring the doorbell and wave from your car. 🙂 This is obviously only possible if you live nearby. But, it’s a great way to honor your mom and save her from cooking her own Mother’s Day meal.
- Send her a spa gift certificate. You can buy this on-line and email it to her (or print out the certificate and mail it with your letter or card). Who wouldn’t appreciate a day at the spa after this quarantine??
- Send flowers. This is easy to do and most everyone loves fresh flowers. ProFlowers does have a few discounts right now to take advantage of. They can usually deliver the following day, but since it’s Mother’s Day you may want to go ahead and order asap to get the best delivery date.
- Order a gift online. There is still time to order some fun gifts online. Shutterfly has some great gifts that you can personalize with pictures. . Also Etsy has some “ready to ship” options that ship in 1-3 days and you can utilize expedited shipping with some shops.
- Give her the gift of education. Masterclass is another great gift! If you haven’t heard of it – it’s a site that offers “classes” from masters in every field. I bought my husband the Aaron Franklin (from Franklin’s Barbecue) masterclass on smoking brisket for Father’s Day last year and he really enjoyed it. You can pay for the class or classes and your mom can log in and watch them whenever she wants to and it’s a great thing to do during quarantine. There are so many different subjects. Cooking, writing, gardening, and photography are just a few. You can buy one class or an unlimited pass. Right now they have a special on buying two unlimited passes for the price of one.
- Write her a poem. A poem is a fun way to tell her how special she is and how much you love her. It’s easier than you think! It’s also a great family activity to do together.
- Utilize Amazon. You can order a gift from Amazon and have it shipped directly to your mom (with your Prime 2-day shipping). Some items can also be gift wrapped. They have tons of bath products, books, jewelry, candles, kitchen gadgets, etc. If you have a Prime membership – this would be a quick and inexpensive way to ship your mom a great gift!
- Buy her a magazine subscription. You can also buy these on Amazon and they have $5-$6 deals on magazine subscriptions all the time. Another great gift that your mom can enjoy the rest of the year.
- Enroll her in a quarterly or monthly subscription club. There are quite a few different options for monthly clubs or subscriptions but a few popular ones are FabFitFun (beauty products and gifts), Book of the Month, Winc Wine Club, and BloomsyBox Flower Subscription. I am sure there is one your mom would love!
- Make a cute video. A video could be a fun way to make your mom feel special. Maybe read the poem you wrote for her, or sing her favorite song (or a made up one), or just tell her how much you love her. Get the whole family involved. She will love it!
I hope these ideas were helpful and I hope you find a special way to honor your mom this weekend. Whatever you do, just try to create a little more peace in her life. 🙂
